There’s a road on campus that is quite narrow and curved. You’d think it was one way, but it’s not and somehow cars are just always out of the way going either direction.

The other day I was walking on it behind a police car rounding the curve. Neither of us saw the bicycle coming from the other direction. They collided. I gasped. I walked around the car, unprepared for the sight of the bicyclist crumpled around her bike on the ground, bloody. I reached out to help, uncertain, completely aghast as the cop car backed up. I thought it was just afraid of being on top of the bike, but it kept going, disappearing around the curve.

Actually, this didn’t happen. In real life, the bike swerved and the cop braked. Sometimes you have to make things up for life to be interesting.
